Freekeh (pronounced free-ka, also known as Farik) is a versatile Middle Eastern roasted green grain that is packed full of nutrients. Here’s a quick summary of this delicious grain:

  • Contains more protein, vitamins and minerals than mature grains because Freekeh is picked while it’s still green
  • Has more than four times the amount of fibre compared with other grains
  • Low Glycemic Index (Wholegrain Freekeh GI = 43)
  • Low fat
  • Versatile, use in place of rice or pasta
  • Nutritional content comparable to other grains like quinoa, brown rice and Farro (see table below)
